Unity Black & White Challenge

For Unity’s black and white challenge I created the below three cards. The light house card carries some heaviness in my heart. It reminds me that out of the darkness in life there can be light. To create this card I started out by stamping the light house image with a Versamark ink, then embossed it with Brutus Monroe’s black Raven embossing powder. To give the image some dimension I used my Arteza water color markers and colored around the light house base. Then using Tim Holtz torn Die cut I cut out the stamped image. For the layers I use a 4.25×5.5 black base, then I took a 4.25×5.5 white layering card stock and tore around the edges. Next I lightly distressed the torn edges with Tim Holtz Distressed ink. Then adding a black layer I started off with a 4×5″ piece of layering card stock and tore the edges. It’s hard to see in the image, however I distressed the black layer with a craft with ink by Stazon.

To give this card some more dimension I added Brutus Monroe’s glitter snow sparkle on the white parts of the light house, then around the base I used some clear micro beads by him as well.

The sentiment on this card was a little tricky. These words are all from one stamp, however it wouldn’t fit properly so very carefully I tore it apart then distressed the edges with black. To keep the bottom works from blending into the light house I adhered it to a scrap piece of black layering card stock and popped it up with pop dots. To finish the card off I used this black, white, and gray twin from Unity to tie around the top of the card.

I felt this card was a little too “Dark” once it was all out together so I added the yellow which brought this card to life for me.

Light house stamp comes for Unity’s “The Ocean is Calling” KOM, Sentiment was gifted to me by a fellow Uni (Tracie Jo)
Primary image comes from Unity’s ” Just… Sorry” Stamp set, Sentiment is from Unity’s ” Good Vibes” stamp set
